This latest round was led by Riverwood Capital. Existing investors, including Accel, Meritech Capital, Foundation Capital, and KKR Growth, also participated. Learn More Client Highlights Wilson Sonsini Represents Onfido in $100 Million Fundraise ​On April 15, 2020, Onfido, a London-based start-up building tools to enable virtual identity verification, announced it has raised $100 million in a funding round led by TPG Growth. Onfido&aposs CEO and co-founder, Husayn Kassai, said he started raising this round in January, just as the novel coronavirus was kicking off in China and eventually everywhere around the world. Learn More Client Highlights Wilson Sonsini Client Granted Release From Federal Prison On April 13, a Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati pro bono team secured the release of its Criminal Justice Act client, based on the COVID-19 pandemic and the heightened—and potentially fatal—risk his pre-existing asthma condition posed while in custody. The client has been held without bail since his federal arrest in late 2018. Learn More Client Highlights Firm Represents CargoX in $80 Million Series E On April 7, 2020, Brazilian start-up CargoX announced that it had raised $80 million in a Series E round of financing led by investor LGT Lightstone, with participation from existing investors Goldman Sachs, Valor Capital, and Farallon Capital. CargoX helps match cargo with trucks available to transport it, and is sometimes referred to as the “Brazilian Uber for cargo.” Currently connecting 20,000 companies with 400,000 truck drivers, the company hopes to double the number of truck drivers it works with in 2020, at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has deeply constrained air cargo. The company had raised $96 million previously, and the latest funding round brings the total to $176 million. Learn More Client Highlights FDA Grants CalciMedica Permission to Advance Clinical Study of COVID-19 Treatment On April 9, 2020, CalciMedica, a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases, announced it has received a “Study May Proceed” letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate the use of CM4620-IE in patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia who are at risk for progression to acute respiratory distress syndrome. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati is advising CalciMedica on the related regulatory matters and was instrumental in getting the Investigational New Drug (IND) application approved through an expedited process that the FDA recently created for drug products intended to treat COVID-19 conditions.
